Did you know there is a difference between a spirit and a soul? I did not. Hebrews 4:12 says “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart”.
This got me to thinking, what’s the difference? I thought the human was body, soul, and mind. Apparently, I was mistaken. From my research, I have learned that the human is body, spirit, and soul. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 states “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
When you accept Christ as Lord and Savior, your spirit is born again (an exact replica of Christ, holy and righteous). This is what God the Father sees as clean.
1 John 4:17 “This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world, we are like Jesus.”
Your soul is attached to your body and spirit. This is what I thought the mind was. It’s your personality, your attitude, and your thoughts. It’s what makes you one of a kind (who you are). It is why the mind thinks the way it does and why you make the decisions that you make.
When we die, we only lose the body. There are a spirit and soul that goes to heaven (or…). I assumed it was one and the same.
